Opportunities for Parents!

Research shows that the main reason that kids don’t use alcohol, tobacco, or drugs is because of their parents -- because of their positive influence and because they know it would disappoint them. That’s why it is so important that parents build a strong relationship with their kids and talk to them about substance abuse -- the earlier the better! (National Crime Prevention Council)

Here are some ways FNL can support you as parents:

FNL Board of Directors

Friday Night Live in SLO County is unique in that is has a non-profit Board of Directors that serves to provide support, guidance and fundraising for local Friday Night Live programs.  The FNL Board was established as a 501c3 in 1991, and consists of parents, professionals, community partners and youth advocates.

Board members attend monthly meetings, provide guidance and help carry out the goals of Friday Night Live.  In general, board members plan and facilitate fundraising efforts, review and award youth scholarships and represent Friday Night Live at various community meetings and events.

The Board meets monthly, on the second Tuesday of the month from 5:30 - 7:00pm.  Currently, meetings are held at the Friday Night Live office at 277 South Street, Ste. T, San Luis Obispo.

Committed Campaign

Sure, it’s illegal for youth to drink alcohol, but one way or another, teens will find away –young people have access to alcohol through their parents, older friends, or simply by using a fake ID. Youth access is a big problem- alcohol related incidents are one of the leading causes of death for teenagers in America.

It’s time to get the community to COMMIT to youth and to saving lives. Our parents, friend’s parents, neighbors, local stores – all of US need to commit to stop underage drinking in our community.

Friday Night Live has developed the COMMITTED Campaign* to encourage parents, neighbors, local stores and other community members to join together and COMMIT to reducing underage drinking and access to alcohol in San Luis Obispo County.

Let's Talk About It...

Ever wanted to talk with your teen about drinking or using drugs, but didn't know where or how to start?  Here's a few tips to get the conversation going - and keep it going!  Chances are, your teen has questions and concerns about substance use, too, and are hoping you'll talk openly with them about it.  Click below to visit the SAMHSA's "Talk! They Hear You" resource page for more tips, conversation starters, and information about youth substance use and how you can help keep your teen safe!

Friday Night Live creates partnerships for postive and healthy youth development, which engage youth as active leaders and resources in their communities.
