ê Founded in 1984, FNL launched in SLO County in 1991 as a partnership between the County’s Drug & Alcohol Services (which employs Coordinator and staff) and the non-profit, 501c3, SLO County Friday Night Live.
ê
The
Board of Directors meets the 1st Wednesday of the month, from 5:30
– 7:00pm at Drug & Alcohol Services in San Luis Obispo.
ê
Board
meetings run 90 minutes on average, and a Board member can expect to contribute
an average of two additional hours per month (this can include committee
meetings, events, or fund raising).
ê
The
Board’s primary functions are to raise funds for the program and to serve in
an advisory capacity.
ê
Board
members participate mainly in fundraising events (averaging 2 per year,
including the annual Mock Rock in spring) and sometimes help chaperone youth
events.
ê
The
FNL Board raises funds for scholarships, youth leadership conferences, school
personnel support stipends and materials, youth incentive items, program
equipment and materials, and prevention campaigns.
ê
The
program currently includes over 30 chapters between 4th and 12th
grades across SLO County, from Nipomo to Shandon!
ê FNL Board Members are also kept abreast of the latest information regarding youth development and substance abuse prevention, and often have opportunities to network with community coalitions and other youth-serving organizations.
